The Dragons, Dimorphodons and Starlings have all been exploring chemical reactions. Using common materials such as corn starch, baking soda, dish detergent and other household staples, the students created mixtures that do remarkable things. Some of these chemical reactions produce strange states of matter like non-Newtonian fluids. Other times, an immediate and exciting burst of sound or color can be observed. These explorations allow the students to practice volume and mass measurement as they create the proper mixtures of these materials. The students can also apply and extend their knowledge of solids, liquids and gases as they observe novel changes and behavior in matter.
