To learn more about the chicks we hatched with the Grasshoppers and Penguins, the students used magnifying glasses and an observation guide to look for certain behaviors. When the student observes the behavior (e.g., eating, drinking, making a sound), they record this behavior on the guide in front of them with a pencil. This activity helps the students to focus their observations and also to switch tasks between observing and recording, an important executive functioning goal in the elementary science classroom!
